Woburn G.C.

I love Woburn Golf Club. There you go, I said it. All 3 courses are stunning and you have a feel of Augusta as you play various holes with well manicured fairways and tall pine trees that line most of them.

All of the courses are a slightly different version of the other. The Marquess, Dukes and Duchess are all a difficult test of golf and if you are not hitting it straight then you may want to come back another day.

However the Duchess does provide a little less to worry about, if you can take your eyes off the beautiful landscaping a concentrate on the task that is.

The green fees are not cheap, but you are being invited for the price to take part in an amazing experience. I get there as often as I can realistically afford it. If I was to have to decide which of the 3 courses I preferred I would say the Dukes because there are a few holes where you almost feel like you are lost in an enchanted forest that someone has turned into a golf course. I once played 18 holes alone with no groups before or after me and I honestly felt like I had the place to myself.

If you have ever thought about, but not committed to playing at Woburn Golf Club, make plans to do so as soon as possible You will not regret it. It is easy to see why Ian Poulter is the clubs touring professional.

Goodwood G.C. – Downs Course

The Downs course at Goodwood is a mix of golf. You open with Parkland golf reminiscent of some holes at Wentworth and then you wander high onto the South Downs with breathtaking views and play golf similar to that which you would find at the London Club in Kent with long wispy grass ready to catch any errant shots.

Good wood has 2 courses and the Downs is a completely different affair to its sibling (The Parks course).

Justin Rose was a recent ambassador and the members course is truly wonderful to play. From the pro tips you are asked some serious questions to realistically make the green in regulation on 1 or 2 of the opening holes, but he shaping of the greens and the recent bunker renovation has added a truly classy feel to the place and whilst it is busy you are should never play a round of more than 4.5 hours.

Good wood gets my vote which is why I was a member for a year.

Meon Valley G.C.

With 27 holes of golf available to play, the Meon Valley golf club offers a great variation of holes to challenge players of all standard.  The Meon and Stirling courses making up the championship 18, and then the Valley course makes up an additional nine holes of exciting golf. With great practice facilities and tuition available, this really is a well-rounded golfing resort.

A former host of the PGA Seniors Tour events, the Meon Valley Golf Course is a popular championship layout which meanders through an ancient oak forest in the stunning Hampshire countryside. Complete with tight fairways, tough bunkers and treacherous water hazards, Meon Valley is the makings for an exceptional and exciting round of golf.

In addition to the Meon Valley Golf Course, there is also the popular 9 hole valley course. This great parkland layout is constructed around ancient Roman ruins, and although it’s wide fairway making it easier than the Meon course, the Valley will still cause visting golfers a problem for their scorecard.
